INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY

Implementing a viable telework program means your organization is investing in advanced technology, reengineering organizational processes, environmental gains, and promoting of work/life balance for employees. Mack Global Consulting has the tools and experience necessary to show you how to get the most out of your telework investment and accurately measure cost savings and efficiencies gained. Performance metrics will effectively measure your return on investment which includes employee productivity.

Creating a level playing field means allowing for a work environment where employees are most likely to meet or exceed company goals and objectives. According to the Midwest Institute for Telecommuting Education in Minneapolis, the most common characteristics associated with determining productivity include:
• Quality of work
• Customer satisfaction
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Quantity of work completed

And this is how remote workers should be monitored for productivity—using the same evaluation guidelines used for office workers. Comparing the performance of remote workers with the historical performance of office workers will provide the data your organization will need to determine if your telework program is truly meeting your expectations.

Integrating telework into the organizations COOP (Continuity of Operations) Plan is critical to allow an agency or organization to continue its essential operations in case of a major emergency. Following 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina we now realize that it is even more important to have trained staff able to work from home or designated centers during a major disaster and maintain some continuity of operations. The ability to work from an alternate workspace is an integral part of Continuity of Operations preparedness planning.

Some major Fortune 500 companies and government agencies have already implemented telework programs and are reporting tremendous results. In particular, increased productivity has been cited as one of the key areas where these organizations saw the greatest gains to their bottom line.

Among these were:
• The more than 100 MDOT (Maryland Department of Transportation) employees who telework represent a 27% increase in productivity in teleworking employees.
• The bottom line, according to Dow Chemical: Administrative costs have dropped 50% annually (15% of which was attributed to commercial real estate costs.) Productivity increased by 32.5% (10% through decreased absenteeism, 16% by working at home and 6.5% by avoiding the commute.
• JD Edwards teleworkers are from 20 to 25% more productive than their office workers.
• AT&T realizes approximately $150 million in annual savings by teleworking; $100 million through direct employee productivity, $35 million through reduced real estate costs and $15 million through enhanced employee retention.
• With more than 31,000 teleworking employees, the State of Arizona says its telework program has provided increased efficiency, greater productivity and enhanced employee morale for its government employees.

NSF (National Science Foundation) study validates telework productivity hypothesis which shows that 67% percent of employees who manage teleworkers, also telework themselves. Eighty-seven percent of these managers also report that employees’ productivity increases or remains the same while teleworking. The majority of those who manage teleworkers do not find it difficult to evaluate teleworkers and find that telework requires minimal to no change to how work is done.
